Homesickness
For many of the campers, perhaps this will be the first time away from
home, staying apart from family members.
Certainly the staff realizes that this is a very trying experience.
It is not uncommon for young people to initially feel uncomfortable in
this type of situation. However,
with patience and encouragement, this can usually be overcome.
Parents who suspect their child may have a problem with this are
encouraged to discuss this with the child prior to coming to camp, and be as
reassuring as you can be. The more
the child is willing to become involved in the various activities, the less
likely a problem will arise. Also,
it will help if the parent refrain from calling the camp just to check on the
child.
Homesickness is contagious.
Because of this, the staff shall work towards keeping the campers involved in
activities and encourage them to be a part of the camp life.
Contact with home will be discouraged unless it is deemed by the staff to
be of an extreme nature. Parental
cooperation in this regard is appreciated.
Requests For Baptism
The main focus of the camping week is its spiritual nature.
We certainly want to help each person realize the potential for a unique
relationship that is possible with the God of all creation.
It is not the purpose of the camp to place these young people in a
pressure situation. We will be ready
to discuss any questions that the child may have and will counsel him or her in
regards to Biblical teachings and our personal responsibility to obey God’s
word.
In the event that a camper makes a request for baptism, that child will
be counseled with by one of the ministers who will be on staff.
Also, the parents of the child shall, if possible, be notified prior to
the fulfillment of the request so that they may be present or may express any
concerns, should there be any.
